Subrata Mitra Memorial inter school photography competition 2026

Congratulations to the Shortlisted Participants

The BGHS Alumni Association is delighted to present the list of shortlisted participants for the Subrata Mitra Memorial Inter School Photography Contest, organized as part of the Centenary Celebration of Ballygunge Government High School.

The response to the competition was truly inspiring. We received a large number of thoughtful and creative photographs from students across participating schools. Each entry was evaluated independently by our panel of judges based on creativity, interpretation of the theme, composition, visual impact, and overall storytelling.

Being shortlisted is a significant achievement and reflects the quality of your work. Whether or not you receive an award, your photograph has demonstrated creativity, originality, and a keen photographic eye. We encourage every participant to continue observing the world with curiosity, learning the art of photography, and expressing their unique perspective through images.

We extend our sincere appreciation to all participating students, teachers, schools, and parents for making this competition a success. The enthusiasm shown by every participant has been the true highlight of this initiative.

Congratulations to all the shortlisted participants, and best wishes for the final results.

About Subrata Mitra

Subrata Mitra (1930–2001) was a famous Indian cinematographer, best known for working with director Satyajit Ray on the legendary Apu Trilogy. He started filming when he was just 21, even though he had no formal training.

Subrata changed the way Indian films looked by creating a special lighting method called “bounce lighting” that made scenes look more natural. His camera work added emotion and beauty to films like Pather Panchali, Charulata, and Nayak.

He studied at Ballygunge Government High School and later worked with international directors, winning many awards including the Padma Shri. Subrata also taught young filmmakers and loved painting and music. He is remembered as one of India’s greatest artists behind the camera.

Organised by Ballygunge Government High School Alumni Association as part of the Centenary Celebrations.
